Biography

Innocent Sunday Ike is a Senior Lecturer of Chemical and Process Engineering and the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, (FUTO) Nigeria, from 2019 – Date. Innocent did his PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering at the School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), Johannesburg, South Africa. He has published more than 30 articles in international refereed journals and conferences worldwide. He has a special interest in Electrochemical energy storage devices such as electrochemical capacitors, next-generation batteries and fuel cells, and is in the team of the African Centre of Excellence of Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACE–FUELS) at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. He is a Professional Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a Registered Corporate Engineer with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE).  Innocent is also registered member Electrochemical Society (ECS) and International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE). He is a member of Ceramic and Composite Materials Focus Area of the Department of Science and Technology/National Research Foundation, Centre of Excellence in Strong Materials (COE–SM), South Africa since 2013 –present. Innocent is also a member of Materials for Energy Research Group  (MERG) South African University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), Johannesburg, South Africa from 2014 – Date.

Research Interest

His research area of interests is on membrane technology, catalysis (synthesis, characterization and applications) and reactor engineering. Electrochemical energy storage devices such as electrochemical capacitors, next-generation batteries (notably Li-S, Na-ion and Li-ion batteries) and fuel cells, photovoltaics, hydrogen production and storage, solar thermal energy production and storage, ion storage and electrolyzers. Batch Chemical Process Integration, Sustainable Process Systems Engineering, Process modelling and simulation. Environmental modelling, waste recycling techniques and waste-to-energy and waste-to resource technologies development (Energy and resources recovery from waste). Chemical process design, dynamics and control. Material Science and General applications of modelling and simulation.
