ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

FUTO's department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering has since inception churned out thousands of graduates most of whom are currently captains of various industries as power and energy industries, telecommunications, manufacturing and production, oil and gas, agriculture, education, banking and several other sectors of the global economy.

With a strong staff strength comprising seasoned Professors, Readers and several other lecturers of good academic standing combined with well equipped laboratories which are actively utilized by both the staff and students. In addition to undergraduate courses the department also offers postgraduate courses in these fields as well as in Control Engineering Technology.

Our Students are grounded in design, production and use of systems, subsystems, components and devices whose operation depends on Electrical and Electronic engineering effects. They have an option of specializing in any of ; Communications Engineering Technolog, electronics and Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology (Power Systems)

We are poised to produce graduate-entrepreneurs who are job creators and not job seekers in their areas of specialization in particular and in the electrical (power) engineering discipline in general. Also we establish appropriate linkages with the industry and other institutions involved in training, research and development both local and international.

Biography

Gloria Chukwudebe is a professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. She has several publications and has presented many papers at National and International Conferences. She has also been an invited Guest Speaker for several organizations in Nigeria. Gloria teaches courses in electronic & computer engineering up to postgraduate level. She was Head of Department, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, FUTO, 1999 – 2005. Gloria enjoys coaching and mentoring young people. She is married with five children. She has a passion for books on personal development. Gloria is an active IEEE Volunteer and the current – Chair for IEEE Nigeria Section. Her favorite magazine is IEEE Spectrum. To thaw out, she watches Nigerian comedies and local soaps- Papa Ajasco, ‘It is a Super Story’, etc.

Ogbogu S. O. E. is a chartered Electrical Engineer who is currently a Professor of Power and Control Engineering in Electrical Electronic Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Owerri. He is an external examiner in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in a good number of universities in Nigeria. He has to his credit a few books in Control Engineering and Basic Electrical Electronic Engineering as well as Power Electronics and Motor Control. He is also a visiting professor to some universities. He has supervised and produced a number of PhD candidates. He has been in the accreditation team for both COREN and NUC to a few high institutions.

Biography

Dr Damian Obioma Dike, a Senior Lecturer in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Nigeria is a 2008 doctoral graduate of Tennessee Technological University, USA. He currently also serves as the University Alumni Relations Officer, FUTO. He worked with Cummins Inc (Power Generation) USA as a Senior Project Engineer from 2008 to 2010, where he designed and supervised the execution of 53 low and medium voltage paralleling system projects. At FUTO, he leads the electrical power and embedded systems research team (EPERT). He also serves as a coordinating consultant engineer to JENCEL Consults limited.

Gloria enjoys mentoring especially young girls. She is married to Associate Professor John Chukwuma Ezeh and the union was blessed with three children. She enjoys reading and listening to good Christian music.

Biography

Dr. Fabian Izundu Izuegbunam had his undergraduate studies at Federal University of Technology, Minna where he obtained Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1995. He worked with Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, QIT, Eket while on NYSC Program between 1995 and 1996; and as a Contract Electrical Engineer from 1996-1998. He joined FUTO as a Research Assistant in 1999 and obtained Masters Degree in Power System Engineering (M.Eng) from Federal University of Technology, Owerri in 2002. His Ph.D research was on ‘Transient Stability Analysis of Nigeria Power System: Multimachine Approach’ which he completed in 2011 at Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

Biography

Engr. Dr. F. K. Opara, hails from Awo Mbieri, Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State, Nigeria. He was born in March 7, 1966 to Mr & Mrs F. O. Opara, a renowned Baptist Church Elder. Educationally, F. K. Opara, obtained his B. Eng. (Tech.), in Electronic and Computer Engineering, from Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Nigeria in 1990. After, the National Youth Service Corp programme, in 1991, he returned for the M. Sc., Degree which he obtained in 1995, in the area of Computer Engineering and finally, got his Ph.D in 2008, in Data Communications, Computer Engineering, all from Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria, where he is presently, the Head of Department (HOD) since July, 2011. However, Engr. Dr. F. K. Opara, is a registered member of Council for the Regulations of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, USA. Furthermore, Engr. Dr. F. K. Opara, is married to Barr. Mrs Faith N. Opara, the Chief Inspector, Imo State Customary Court of Appeal, and the marriage is blessed with children; Peace, Happiness, Noble and Wisdom.

Dr. Lazarus O. Uzoechi is a lecturer 1 in the Electrical/ Electronic Engineering department. He is interested in the repositioning of the Nigerian power sector through system reforms. He has attended many national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. Also, he has published in local and international journals. Biography

Engr. Nosiri Onyebuchi Chikezie is a native of Umuchoke Obazu Mbieri in Mbaitoli L.G.A of Imo State. He had his undergraduate studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where he obtained Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Electrical Electronic Engineering, 2002, He did his National Youth Service at the National Control Centre Oshogbo (2003-2004), he was retained as a System Planning Engineer and worked for one year (2004-2005). He proceeded for his Master of Engineering (M.Eng) degree at department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, (2006-2009). By 2010, he was admitted for his Doctorate research at the department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He is married and blessed with children. He joined FUTO in June, 2011, as a lecturer II. He is a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineer (NSE), Member IEEE, NIEE, and a Registered COREN Engineer. Biography

I. F. Ezebili began his academic career as a graduate assistant at Olabisi Onabanjo University OOU (formerly Ogun State University), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State shortly after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2005. He was one of the pioneer staff of the University’s College of Engineering located at Ibogun. In 2007 he proceeded to Cranfield University, United Kingdom where he studied for an MSc degree in Process Systems Engineering. In 2009 he returned to OOU from where he eventually joined the services of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri where he teaches a number of undergraduate courses. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

Jude-Kennedy Obichere received B. Eng and Msc. Eng degrees (Power Systems) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at The University of Port Harcourt in 1992 and 2004, respectively. In October 1994, Jude joined the Oil Industry as a Service Engineer after his National Youth Service (NYSC) in 1993. He rose from the ladder to the post of a Service Manager in-charge of Training of other Engineers and Unit Operators in the areas of Drilling Mud Solids Control and Waste management while performing other Management functions. In 2005, he joined the Electrical & Electronic Engineering Department of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) as a PhD Student and Part-Time Lecturer and later became a Full-Time Lecturer in February, 2007 where he teaches Electrical Engineering Courses, Research/Project Supervision by combining his theoretical and Oil Industry practical experiences to would-be Engineers as part of his contributions to Human Resource Development. Jude is also a Consultant to many Oil Service Companies and a member of the FUTO Renewable and Alternative Energy Research Group. He is a member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (MNSE) and a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Jude has been a TRAINER from the Oil Industry and now to the University.

He worked as a Software Engineer at Internet Experts Nig Ltd in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria from 2011- 2012. He joined the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering FUTO in Dec., 2012 as a Graduate Assistant. He is conversant with and experienced in Software design and development using various tools ranging from HTML, AJAX, CSS, Java, PHP, VB.Net to Jquery and other Plugins.He is also interested in acquiring managerial skills having written and passed the graduate membership examination of Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) in the year 2010. Also, he has published an introductory book in Computer Studies called Begineers’ Computer Book(2011). His major research interests are software engineering and software interoperability.
