Biography

Professor Julius Sunday Orebiyi hails from Ogbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. He Obtained his first school leaving certificate in 1969, West African School Certificate in 1974, A–level Cambridge Certificate in 1977, B.Sc. (Hons) 21 Agricultural Economics in 1981, M.Sc. Agric–Economics (Agric. Finance & Cooperatives) in 1985 and Ph.D Agric. Finance & Rural Development, 2000. He was appointed Graduate Assistant on 1st October 1983 by the Federal University of Technology Owerrri. He has Published over 120 articles in Peer Reviewed Journals, Proceedings, Technical Reports and attended Conferences/Organized Workshops both locally and internationally. He was Promoted to Professor of Agricultural Economics by the Governing Council of FUTO on 1st October, 2006. He was appointed Head, Department of Agricultural Economics & Extension FUTO January 2001–2003 and May 2005–September, 2006 Respectively, Head, Department of agricultural Economics & Extension, Kogi State University Anyigba November 2006–August 2008 (Leave of Absence/Sabbatical), Dean, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology Owerri (FUTO) July 1st, 2013–June 30th, 2015, Director, Centre for Agricultural Research and Extension, July 1st, 2016–September 9th, 2018, Deputy Vice–Chancellor (Administration), Federal University of Technology Owerri; September 10th, 2018–2021. He has supervised and Graduated over 14 Ph.D’s, 17 M.Sc’s and

over 120 first degree students. His Research Interests include;

  • Financing of Small Scale Farmers.
  • Production Economics Research.
  • Research on Risks, Uncertainties, Insurance and Food Security.
  • Technology Adoption Research and
  • Agricultural Marketing.

Prof. J.S. Orebiyi was the 29th Inaugural Lecturer of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, external Examiner at Undergraduate and Post-Graduate levels to so many Universities in Nigeria, too numerous to mention, Chairman and member of many University, School and Departmental Committees as well as many Investigative Panels, Member of many Professional Associations such as NAAE, FAMAN, ASN, STAN, NRSA etc. His hobbies include: Reading, Listening to Gospel Music, Watching Christian Movies, and Football etc. He is Married with Children and he is a devout Christian.
