Philosophy of the Programme
The philosophy of the B.Eng. Programme in Computer Engineering of the School of Electrical System Engineering Technology is to produce self-reliant Computer Engineering graduates of high academic standards with adequate theoretical and practical knowledge who will use technology for service, that is, graduates that are ready to move from classroom straight to the industry with little or no further training. The curriculum covers adequate exposure to foundation science, and basic Computer engineering courses so as to train skilled manpower that can imbibe and leverage modern technological techniques to innovate and sustain National Technological Advancement of the future.
Aims/Objectives of the Programme
The aim of the Department is to produce graduates that can attain excellence in all scholastic endeavours and act as a front-runner in producing globally competent Computer Engineers, Innovators, Researchers and Entrepreneurs that will make impact in the world economy through disruptive research and innovation ecosystems.
The objectives of the programme are:
- To train skilled manpower that can imbibe and leverage modern computing engineering techniques to innovate and sustain National Technological Advancement of the future.
- To produce Engineers in Systems Automation and Robotic smart systems that will add values in Digital Manufacturing and 3D printing in the era of Industry 5.0.
- To develop techniques and strategies in Reverse Engineering for effective technological penetrations.
- To develop capabilities that will move Nigeria from depending on minerals and hydrocarbons to being driven by the knowledge power of Information Technology and Computing principles.
- To promote the quality of research in Computer Engineering as a subject for the acquisition of higher degrees such as M.Sc./M.Eng and PhD degrees.
Career Opportunities
The Computer Engineering Graduates are expected to, primarily, be self-reliant, job creators, and independent Entrepreneurs, rather than job seekers. They are therefore, trained to technically design, Analyze, develop and create job opportunities in their areas of specialization either on individual or corporate capacities.
However, they can easily find gainful employment in the area of Computer Engineering and many other related industries, such as:
- In System’ and Software Engineering, Companies
- In Instrumentation and Control Engineering, outfits
- ROBOTICS and Production Engineering, facilities
- Artificial intelligence (AI) development companies
- Smart and Automated System, Companies
- Computer Networking and Assembling Plants
- As System’s Administrators.
In addition to (i) – (vii), employment opportunities exist in other economic sectors, such as: in the Oil industry, shipping, banking industries, general management sectors, Software Houses, Health institutions, Defence systems, traffic and transport sectors, security establishments, education and other technological based institutions, numerous to outline.
