Biography

Dominic D. O. Eya (Ph. D, M.Sc, B.Sc) is a Professor in the Department of Physics, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State. He is current Head, Department of Physics, FUTO.  He holds B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics, M.Sc. and PhD in experimental solid-state physics.  His current areas of research interest include Solid state electronics, Materials Science with an emphasis in thin-film/nano Physics and Solar energy. He has to his credit several journal publications in both local and international Journals.

Prof D. D. O. Eya was first appointed Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Physics, Benue State University, Makurdi in 1997. However, he relocated to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri in 1999 on appointment as a Lecturer II. He then rose through the ranks and was elevated to the rank of professor of Physics with effect from October 1, 2016. In the 2013/2014 session, he was in the Department of Physics, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike for one-year sabbatical leave.

Prof Eya was the Head of Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Federal University of Technology, Owerri from 2015 to 2017 and Desk Officer, Needs Assessment of the University from 2017 to 2020. He has been a member of the University Senate since 2015. Other statutory committees include membership of School Board, Departmental Board and Departmental Board of Examiners since 1999. He has also served in several other University committees and Panels.

Prof Eya is a member of the following professional associations: (i) Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP) (ii) Solar Energy Society of Nigeria (iii) Renewable and Alternative Energy Society of Nigeria (RAESON) (iv) Physics Writers Series Creation (PWSC)

On community development, Prof Eya was the financial secretary of Ikpamodo General Assembly (now, Town Union) from inception in 2007 to 2015. He is the Chairman of Enugu State Indigenes Welfare Association, FUTO branch from 2007 till now. He is also the Chairman, Nsukka Zonal Welfare Association, Owerri branch, 2019 to date. He was the Welfare Officer of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO), St Joseph’s Catholic Chaplaincy, Imo state University Owerri, 2014 – 2017, Vice Chairman, CMO, St Thomas Aquinas’s Chaplaincy, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, 2017 till now. Prof Eya is a member of the Chaplaincy Council of both Chaplaincies, 2018 till now.
