Welcome Address

The Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics (POT) was established to train students in Prosthetics and Orthotics and related Rehabilitation Sciences, to equip them with technical skills and knowledge in Prosthetics and Orthotics. The Department through the academic staff and technologist run the five-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree programme, and is intending to start up the Master of Science (M.Sc.) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degrees in the next academic session. Graduates of the Department are very much equipped with the requisite theoretical and practical knowledge for research and development in POT technologies, to assist individuals with disabilities for proper integration at the workplace and in the society. The POT Teaching and Research facilities- a major component of the School of Health Technology, facilitate the practical training and research capabilities of students. The Department has a future plan to collaborate with the Human Study eV Germany in a bid to produce innovative and competent graduates who can fit appropriately into the global P&O workforce and marketplace.

POT has quality teaching staff, technical and non-teaching support staff all equipped with the state of art facilities dedicated to fulfilling the Department, School and the University mantra (driving the culture of excellence) and also meeting with the University vision -“To re-engineer and re-position the Federal University of Technology to be a truly world-class university through recreating, nurturing and developing uniquely promising students and exceptional staff in Science, Technology and enterprise to the benefit of our globalized world”.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be foremost Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics with the latest cutting edge technology in the training of skilled, knowledgeable and highly research-oriented Prosthetics and Orthotics professionals that will be of a great solution to the individuals with fracture and other disability conditions.

Our Mission

The mission of the Department is to produce Prosthetics and Orthotics professionals that are resourceful, knowledgeable and skilful in the fabrication, dispensing and management of Prostheses, Orthoses, Orthopaedic consumables and equipment that will be of immense use in the treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with a disability.
