He trained as a civil Pilot between 1989 & 1990. He served as a Research Assistant to the Shell Chair of Environmental Studies, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (2005 – 2007), Assistant Lecturer at the Rivers State College of Education (2007 – 2008) before moving over to FUTO in 2009 where he rose to the rank of a Senior Lecturer and is currently being assessed as Associate Professor of Environmental Management. He has successfully-supervised one Doctorate Student, ten Masters Students and several undergraduate students’ theses
He has been engaged in several environmental audit/studies by both Multinational and National companies in the area of the effects of produce water, effects of benzo (a) pyrene etc. on the environment and ecological (Flood & Erosion) disaster management. He is also actively involved in MSW management and modeling of leachate contamination of groundwater. He has made outstanding contributions to water resources management and environmental hazard/disaster risk reduction and management and has over 46 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, with several presentations at national and international conferences.
Research interest include Fluvial Geomorphology, River restoration, Water Resources Management, Watershed Hydrology, Watershed Management, Environmental Analysis, Soil Erosion & Flood Control, Environmental Resources Management, Disaster/Risk Management
Dr. Amangabara belongs to various professional associations including the Nigeria Association of Hydrological Sciences (NAHS) an affiliate of International Association Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) where he is currently serving as the National Secretary. Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG), and Nigerian Environmental Society (NES).
