Biography

Dr. Igwe Ukoha is a distinguished academic with extensive expertise in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. He began his academic journey at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), where he earned his Bachelor of Agricultural Technology (B.Agric.Tech.) in Agricultural Economics and Extension in 2005, followed by a Master of Science (MSc) in Agricultural Economics in 2011. His pursuit of higher education culminated in a Ph.D. in Agricultural Finance from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in 2020. Dr. Ukoha’s professional career at FUTO commenced in 2011 as an Assistant Lecturer, and through his dedication and contributions, he has risen to the rank of Senior Lecturer. Notably, he was among the pioneer staff members of the newly established Department of Agribusiness in 2020, where he continues to teach.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Ukoha has taught over 11 distinct undergraduate courses, mentored more than 60 undergraduate students, and is actively involved in instructing postgraduate students. He has played a significant role in supervising undergraduate projects and seminars, guiding the successful completion of over 60 undergraduate projects. His supervisory responsibilities extend to overseeing the academic progress of some Postgraduate student. Dr. Ukoha’s research interests include agricultural finance, climate finance, smart farming, rural development, and value chain addition. With over 40 academic publications, his commitment to teaching, research, and student mentorship has made him a valuable asset to FUTO and the broader academic community.

In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, Dr. Ukoha has held several key positions within the university, including Exam Officer for the Department of Agribusiness (2022 – Present), Manager of FUTO BUS/Transport Services (2022 – Present), and SIWES Coordinator (Agricultural Economics). He has also contributed to various university and school committees, such as the SAAT Fisheries Committee (2021), FUTO Quality Assurance Committee (2020), and SAAT Board of Studies (2011 – Present). His service extends to participation in the Departmental Exams Committee (2020), NAAE Conference Security Committee (2016), SAAT Computing Facilities Committee, SAAT Examination and Timetables Committee, Agricultural Economics Welfare Committee, and SAAT Electoral Committee, reflecting his dedication to the academic and administrative development of the university.
