PROFESSOR NDUKWE JAMES OKEUDO

Professor Ndukwe James Okeudo is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. In 1984, he graduated in First Class Honours from the Faculty of Agriculture, specializing in Animal Science; and in 1989, he obtained the Master of Philosophy Degree in Animal Science, with specialization in Ruminant Animal Nutrition. Because of his excellent and unparalleled academic performance, his first-degree studies was sponsored by Shell Petroleum Development Company, Nigeria, Limited through a scholarship, whilst the postgraduate training was fully funded from the University Graduate Fellowship Award.
The young and budding scholar was appointed Assistant Lecturer in the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) with effect from 1st October 1989. After working for two years, he was awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship, and through that sponsorship, he studied Meat Science in Queen’s University, Belfast, United Kingdom. He was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in 1994.
Immediately after the completion of the doctoral training, Dr N. J. Okeudo returned to FUTO, resumed his appointment and continued with his meritorious and impactful academic career that has spanned more than twenty-nine (29) years. In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of full Professor. Prof. N. J. Okeudo has successfully supervised numerous Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral students, and published copiously in many high ranking international journals. In his evolving and highly productive career in FUTO, he was appointed Head of Department (Acting Capacity) for two terms (2001 – 2003) and Hostel Master (2011); and because of his incorruptible and impeccable character he was appointed Head, Anti-corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit (ACTU), 2011- 2018. Recently, he was appointed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), with effect from 16th March 2018.
Prof. N. J. Okeudo is the recipient of numerous academic awards, including Faculty Prize together with Alli Idowu Prize for the student with the best overall performance in the final Bachelor of Agriculture degree examination (1984), Institute of Food Science and Technology (UK) Student Prize (1993), Northern Ireland Food Industries Award (1994), David Fussy Research Award, British Council (2001), and Support Africa International Research Prize, Germany (2003). This erudite and intellectually sagacious scholar, a man known for incorruptibility and unique administrative competence, is happily married to Dr. (Mrs.) Geraldine Nkechinyere Okeudo (Current Ag Head, Department of Transport Management Technology, FUTO). The marriage is blessed with many children.
