Uwem Ukpong was named Chief Global Operations Officer for BHGE, January 4, 2018. A 25-year industry veteran, Uwem has a wealth of global experience, having directly managed or supported global oil and gas operations across multiple regions, including North America, Europe, North Africa and Latin America. In addition to his global operations remit, Uwem is also Chief Integration Officer, where he is overseeing the successful integration of the $32 billion merger between GE Oil & Gas and Baker Hughes.
Before joining GE in January 2016, Uwem was president of Schlumberger Software for two years. Based in London, he was responsible for overall strategic development of E&P software and services covering reservoir characterization, production optimization, and drilling to solve oil and gas challenges.
Uwem began his career at Schlumberger, holding multiple oilfield services operating roles, including wireline field engineer, petrophysicist and reservoir engineer. He later managed oilfield operations, covering Drilling, Wireline, Pressure Pumping, Completions and Well Testing across different geographies. Uwem was promoted to increasingly more senior roles within Schlumberger, including regional operations, geosciences, digital, HR and product line management.
Uwem holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. He also has a master’s degree in petroleum engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Most recently, he was named one of the 300 most powerful executives in corporate America by Black Enterprise magazine.
