About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Birmingham, Federal University of Technology Owerri, and DEKOOLAR Nigeria Limited. The project aims to develop a clean, effective, and affordable solar-powered cooling system for perishable crops cold storage, reducing postharvest losses and improving food security.
Please note that the successful applicant will be an employee of the Federal University of Technology Owerri but will work primarily at DEKOOLAR Nigeria Limited, located at No.1 Alade close, beside Addide supermarket, off Iju Road, Ifako-Ijaye, Lagos.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will research the development of a novel solar-powered desiccant-evaporative cooling system using advanced Metal Organic Framework (MOF) adsorbent material. Tasks will include:
- Synthesising and characterising the MOF Desiccant material.
- Thermodynamic modelling of the desiccant evaporative cooling system.
- Manufacturing and testing the system.
- Developing marketing literature for the commercialisation of the system.
Qualifications:
A graduate or postgraduate degree (PhD preferred) in Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Experience with Solidworks CAD software for system design, including heat exchangers.
- Experience with system simulation software like Matlab.
- Experience in adsorbent materials and refrigeration systems design and testing.
- Excellent communication in English (written and spoken).
- Ability to liaise with academics, company staff, manufacturers, and customers.
- Presentation skills for national and international conferences.
