A Brief Biography

Mrs Uchechukwu Olive Iwuagwu is a Principal Assistant Registrar in the Registry Department, Federal University of Technology, Owerri. She obtained her B.Tech. degree in Biological Sciences (Industrial Microbiology) in 1996 and MPH (Environmental Health) in 2012 both from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. She is presently pursuing her PhD degree in Public Health (Environmental Health and Safety) also in FUTO. She joined the services of FUTO on the 7th of May, 2001 and rose to the rank of Principal Assistant Registrar in 2012. She has participated in several conferences and training workshops and also published in some peer-reviewed national and international journals. Her research interest is in the area of environmental health, safety and sustainability. She has also served as a member of Local Organizing Committees for conferences and workshops. She is a member of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA) and Health Promotion Research Association of Nigeria (HEPRAN). She was once the Acting Coordinator of the Institute of Women, Gender and Development Studies, FUTO; and currently the Principal Assistant Registrar in charge of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, FUTO.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  1. Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) (June 2018 to date)
    Rank: Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR)
    As a Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR) and Acting Coordinator I was responsible to the DVC (Academic) for the following duties:
    • Cross-matching and clearing of students’ results for approval
    • Managing of resources and coordinating and supervising of staff and activities of the unit
    • Writing routine mails and correspondences of the DVC, (Academic) Office
    • Writing minutes and reports of committee meetings and other activities of the unit
    • Secretary of some of the Adhoc committees of which the DVC (Academic) was the Chairman
    • Handling other administrative duties assigned to me from time to time
  2. Institute of women Gender and Development Studies (IWoGDS) (2012 to 2018)
    As a Senior Assistant Registrar (SAR), Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR) and Acting Coordinator (from July 4th, 2013) of the unit,
    • I was responsible to the Director of the Institute and in charge of the day to day administration of the Institute
    • Assisting the Director of the Institute in articulating, planning, organizing and implementing approved programmes of the Institute
    • Writing speeches and other presentations from the Institute
    • Compilation and proof-reading of articles/papers for publication in the Institute’s Journals, Book of Abstracts, Conference Proceedings, Bulletins etc

    • Matters relating to the appointments, promotions, and confirmation of senior staff
    • Collation and processing of applications; and invitation of shortlisted applicants for interviews
    • Assistant secretary during appointment interviews and regularization of appointment
    • Preparation of appointment letters (Tenure, Sabbatical, Contract, Adjunct etc)
    • Documentation of Senior Staff on the assumption of duty
    • Handling matters relating to annual leave, deferred leave, study leave/ fellowships, sabbatical leave, senior staff training etc
    • Handling matters relating to discipline of Senior Staff
    • Processing of claims/entitlements of staff on the assumption of duty; pensions, gratuity and other entitlements of a retiring or deceased staff.
    • Handling senior staff matters relating to termination of appointments, withdrawal and retirement from the services of the University and updating Senior Staff lists.
    • Handling matters relating to NYSC needs of the departments/units, issuance of clearance to NYSC members posted to FUTO for their monthly allowance
    • Preparation, collation and circulation of Notices of meetings, Agenda papers and submissions of Central Appraisals Committee – (Professorial) CAC- (P), Academic Staff Appointments and Promotions Committee  (Professorial) ASAPC (P), Administrative and Professional Staff Appointments and Promotions Committee APSAPC, Senior Staff Training Committee (SSTC)
    • Communicating of the decisions of the above-mentioned committees as appropriate
    • Handling other administrative duties assigned to me from time to time
  4. Dean’s Office, SEET (2001 to 2005)
    As an Administrative Assistant (AA) and Administrative Officer (AO), I was assisting the School Administrative Officer in:
    • Preparation, collation and circulation of Notices of meetings, Agenda papers and submissions to SEET Board of Studies, SEET Planning Committee, SEET ASAPC (Professorial), SEET ASAPC ( Non – Professorial), SEET APSAPC, SEET Research Committee, SEET Strategic Planning Committee, SEET Junior Staff Appraisal Committee and many other Adhoc committees
    • Clerking the meetings of the above-mentioned committees and preparation of the draft minutes
    • Communicating the decisions of the SEET Board of Studies and the other committees to those affected
    • Preparation of submissions from SEET to Senate and other relevant university committees
    • SEET Representative on UIIF USA Computer project and Registry welfare scheme
