Biography

Prof.(Mrs.) Onyewuchi, O.P. is the 4th child of Late Hon. P.J.C. Obilo and Mrs D.A. Obilo, a native of Odumara, in Orodo, Mbaitolu L.G.A. She started her nursery/ primary school education at Our Lady of Lourdes, Ontario, Canada. Her family relocated to Nigeria, in the late 70’s from where she finished her primary school education at Alvan Ikoku College of Education and Demonstration Primary school commonly known as Shell Camp Primary school, Owerri. She obtained her secondary school education at Federal Government College (F.G.G.C.), Bwari, Abuja. She obtained her B.Sc degree in Botany at the Abia State University, Uturu in 1995. Immediately after NYSC, she gained admission into one of the premier universities in the country, University of Ibadan in the Department of Crop Protection and Environmental Biology from where she obtained an M.Sc, in Plant Pathology, M.Phil in Plant Ecology and finished with a Ph.D in Plant Pathology. While she was doing her Ph.D, she got an appointment in Federal University of Technology, Owerri as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Crop Science and Technology in December 3rd, 2001. Currently, she is a Professor of Crop Science and Technology. She has supervised more than 25 B.Sc projects, 2 PGD projects, 10 M.Sc projects and 6 PhD thesis. She has published in several national and international journals and has more than 50 publications and a chapter in a book. She has attended more than 15 national Agricultural conferences since 2001. While attending a six weeks training course at Netherlands (2005), she was privileged to visit Belgium, France, and Germany for Agricultural field work.

She has held several posts in the University such as Class adviser, Course Coordinator, Exam officer, Associate Dean, Acting Dean, Head of Department and currently, the 16th Substantive and 1st female Dean of School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology. She is happily married to Mr. Edward Boniface Onyewuchi who is a business man from Ngor-Okpala, Imo state. They have a beautiful daughter.She resides with her husband at Obinze,  Imo state. She likes reading and travelling.
