Engr. Dr. (Chief) Gerald Onyekachi Onuoha (B.Sc., M.Sc., PhD) the USA. Received a B.Sc. in 1983 from the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University, Alabama USA, and received M.Sc. in 1984 from the Department of Industrial Technology, Alabama A. &M. University, United States of America.

In 1985, he continued advanced academic studying (Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S). in Higher Education Administration and Supervision) from the School of Graduate Studies, Department of Higher Education, Alabama A. & M. University, Alabama, USA.

He completed his Doctoral Program in Manufacturing Engineering and received PhD in 1992 from American University, United States of America.

In 2000 - 2002 he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Port Harcourt, as a Senior Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering.

In October 2002, Engr. Dr. (Chief) Gerald Onyekachi Onuoha joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria. He is currently a Senior Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) with expertise in Information and Communication Technology [ICT] in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture [CAD/CAM] in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria.

His research interests include Space Science and Technology, Mechatronics, Satellite Technology Development, Aeronautics Engineering and Aerospace Technology, Computer Graphics, Simulation, Visualization, Computer Vision, and Manufacturing Processes. Past and current Projects include Real-Time 3D scene acquisition, Visualization of large-scale Simulations, High-quality interactive rendering of curved reflectors, rendering from depth-and-colour samples, and graphics architectures for image-based rendering.

He is a Registered member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Alpha Phi Alpha (AΦA) Academic Honors Society Incorporated, United States of America, Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and African Institute of Science and Technology (AIST).

Engr., Dr Gerald Onyekachi Onuoha is a Citizen of the United States of America by Naturalization; he has spent the last twenty-seven (27) years contributing to knowledge in Teaching and Research in Mechanical Engineering and in Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE), and Industrial Technology. He has published thirty-three (33) Journal articles in both national and International Journals; Ten Text Books used in Mechanical and supervised numerous numbers of both undergraduate and graduate final year projects, thesis and dissertations.

I have also gained significant experience through a comprehensive Research Study effort and practice to improve the use of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to design and manufacture Machine tools and Production equipment and machinery such as the use of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machines, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Systems to manufacture Components and parts of which I am presently teaching the students in ENG 104, ENG 201, ENG 203, ENG 206, MEE 206, MEE 303, MEE 505 and IPE 509, MEE 621, and MEE 622 respectively.


  10. I have gained significant research and practical experience also in advanced Corrosion Control techniques to solve the problems of the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria.


  11. I am currently working on the development and design of power generation system that will provide adequate power supply and stability at the transformer stations, this system will improve the present services currently offered by Power Holding.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE

Engr., Dr., (Chief) Gerald Onyekachi Onuoha, American Citizen by Naturalization, Graduated at Alabama Agricultural and mechanical university in the United States of America, with B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, May 1983; M.Sc., Degree in Industrial Technology, July 1984. In 1985, he continued advanced academic study in (Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S) in Higher Education Administration and Supervision) from the School of Graduate Studies, Department of Higher Education, Alabama A. & M. University, Alabama, USA. He received PhD Degree in Manufacturing Engineering in 1992 from American University respectively.

Engr., Dr. Gerald .O. Onuoha has spent the last thirty (30) years contributing to the Teaching and Research in Mechanical Engineering, in Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE), and Industrial Technology. He has published over thirty six (33) Journal articles in the both national and international Journals including Ultrasonic Characterization of Diffusion Bonded Steel Plates and their Fatigue Properties, Fatigue Crack Initiation Process at the place with stress gradient due to blind hole and Computer Assisted Investigation of Crack Initiation and Propagation in Dual and Multiphase Alloys and' 'Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Nodular Cast Iron with low Carbon Martensite Matrix" and many others.

He has published over ten Textbooks used in Mechanical Engineering, such as CAD/CAM Text Book, Introduction to Computers in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology and Workshop Practice, Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) and Engineer in Society etc. After completing his Ph.D., inManufacturing Engineering in 1992, he published as part of his Research Efforts" What is Technology, Classification of metals, workshop Safety, Metal Work-Drills and Machines etc, with financial support from the Society of American Military Engineers (S.A.M.E.), American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and A. & M. University in Alabama, the United States of America and these Research and publications were also sponsored in part by the Land Grant Institutions of the United States of America, the U.S. Army Missile Command, NASA, and the American Association for the Advancement in Science.

Engr., Dr Onuoha, has contributed to knowledge in the Areas of Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Computer and Engineering Science and Technology with the Funding Assistance and Motivation from Several Research Sponsoring Agencies in the United States of America. He has published with his colleagues, R. McKenzie, Dr R. Daniel, Engr. L. Robson and F. Watkins and others.

Since 1984-1989 that Dr Onuoha Joined the Services of Alabama A.&M. University as a Faculty Member (Instructor) and American University (1989 -1992) as Faculty Member (Assistant Professor) he has benefited from the Engineering Research Fellowship Programs of the Universities. The outcome of the Fellowship, the Engineering Research Programs and the Knowledge gained are the Development of Several Mechanical Components Production Techniques, Machine Design methods, Methodologies in Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing, Robotics Technology, Computer Aided Engineering, Parts, System Hardware's, Software's and the transfer of Scientific, Technical and Engineering Knowledge to Students in the Universities and Corporations.

Dr Onuoha has also done several Consultancy Services with many Corporations, and Agencies including UNDP, UNESCO, WHO, A.I.S.T, Oil & Gas investment Nigeria Limited., Airwave Nigeria Limited, Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) IRCN and others.

In Pursuance of Efficient Dissemination of Scientific, Engineering and Technological Knowledge Engr., Dr Onuoha has contributed in this direction through his Class Room Lectures, Research, and Presentations. He has taught Undergraduate and Graduate Courses in Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), Production Analysis and Design, Control Engineering, Robotics, Automation, Production and Operations Planning and Control, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Engineering Workshop Practice, Manufacturing Processes, Computers in Mechanical Engineering, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Machine Tools Production and Management etc, at Alabama A.&M. University, American University, University of Port Harcourt, and the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria respectively.

Dr Onuoha has Brought Several Relief Materials and Equipment from the International relief agencies to Nigeria and other Parts of Africa through his Membership and Leadership in the African Institute of Science & Technology AIST (LTD-GTE) and the International Relief Center for the Needy, (IRCN, LTD-GTE) a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

The objective of such initiative is to Reach out to the Needy in Nigeria and elsewhere in the World and to impact Education and the "State-of-the-Arts Technology and Scientific Knowledge to the Practicing and Potential Engineers and Technologist. With Special Focus in Nigeria.

New innovations in Design, Manufacture, and maintenance Culture including maintenance of advanced systems such as the Maintenance of a Robot, Computers, Laser printers, photocopies, Automotives, Satellite systems, Communication systems, Radar, Air Traffic Control Systems, Aircraft design, manufacture, and maintenance, the Concept which I am now teaching the students in ENG 102, ENG 201, ENG 206, ENG 314, MEE 206, .MEE 303, MEE 505, and IPE S09.in FUTO.


  9. I have also gained significant experience through a comprehensive Research Study effort and practice to improve the use of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to design and manufacture Machine tools and Production equipment and machinery such as the use of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machines, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Systems to manufacture Components and parts of which I am presently teaching the students in ENG 104, ENG 201, ENG 203, ENG 206, MEE 206, MEE 303, MEE 505 and IPE 509, MEE 621, and MEE 622 respectively.


  10. I have gained significant research and practical experience also in advanced Corrosion Control techniques to solve the problems of the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria.


  11. I am currently working on the development and design of power generation system that will provide adequate power supply and stability at the transformer stations, this system will improve the present services currently offered by Power Holding.

 

EXPLANATION AND THE REASON:

Development of new Computer Programming and Design tecI;l11iqu~s using AutoCAD; CAD/CAM and other Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) Softwares, and the use of Numerical Control (NC) methods using computer keyboard to programme CNC Machines for machining operations such as turning, milling, shaping, drilling, reaming, boring, broaching, spinning, grinding, polishing, and screw thread cutting, tapping, and Gear cutting operations.

Teaching the Students in MEE 206 and MEE 505 and IPE 509 the most effective method of using Microsoft Windows, MS-DOS, Fortran programming, Coral Draw, PowerPoint, Microsoft Paint, and Microsoft Word Software Programs for Engineering Applications.

 

Successfully, and academically Advised and computed the Results of over 400 Students of Mechanical Engineering Students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, FUTO from their Year (1) one, (2002/2003) to their final year., year(5) five, (2006/2007). Performed perfectly the duties of the Academic Course Adviser .to the satisfaction of every student.
