Profile

Dr Toochukwu  E. Ogbulie is a senior lecturer and currently the Ag  Head, Department of Biotechnology FUTO.  She holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Biotechnology,  M.Sc. and B.Sc. in  Microbiology.  She is a researcher and a registered  Environmental  Specialist  (RES)  and has a profound interest and experience in Environmental/ Food Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.  She has carried out several operational types of research in Biotechnology using a  strong quantitative and analytical skills in empirical and operational research which she obtained from varied international training and workshops which she has attended.  Dr Ogbulie and her team have been in search of possible environmentally friendly strategies for cleanup operations in crude oil polluted the agricultural soil. Currently, the team have confirmed the possible identities of bacterial isolates with an identical sequence of genes of negligible differences coding for degradation of crude oil using Next Generation Sequencing Technique and Bioinformatics tools. The team is on the verge of developing novel organism with composite degradative genes to be employed in monoculture and multicultural operational systems.  Dr Ogbulie has indeed acquired a lot of invaluable experiences in teaching and research which has exposed her to enhanced communication and managerial skills.  She has obtained additional qualifications from  short  courses  and training as  summer  certificate  Course in  Molecular Biology Techniques  for  DNA  Technology;  Practical  course  in  Bioinformatics”  Computer  Methods  in Molecular Biology at  ICGEB,  Trieste  Italy;  Course in    Environmental  Management as  Registered Environmental  Professionals  NREP ,  USA;  Chinese  Academy  of  Science  CAS-TWAS  Food Biotechnology  Training,  Beijing,  China;  Course  on  Next  Generation Sequencing  in  Sanger Sequencing Institute , Hinxton  Cambridge  UK. Wellcome Genome Campus Advanced Overseas Course on Human and Vertebrate Genomics implemented by Sanger Sequencing Institute, Wellcome Genome Campus, Hinxton Cambridge, United Kingdom in Durban , South Africa, ProBIOGAS International Biogas plant engineering and operating training in Steinbeis Institute of Management and Technology (SIMT) Filderhauptstraße 142, 70599 organized by  Internationales Biogas und Bioenergie Kompetenzzentrum [IBBK], Stuttgart Germany etc. Dr Ogbulie has so many other professional experiences and has ultimately contributed to research and Development and stimulated superior and excellent research in the  University especially in the field of Biotechnology. She has strong and viable national and international collaboration links with many organizations as Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM), Biotechnological Society of Nigeria (BSN),  Nigeria Environmental Society (NES),  Organization for Women in  Science for  the Developing  World  (OWSDW/  TWOWS),  National Registry  of  Environmental  Professionals  (NREP) USA, Society for Applied Microbiology (SFAM) UK, American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Graduate Women in  Science (GWIS)  USA which she is currently the Vice president of the international chapter. Dr Ogbulie is an editorial/review board member of many scholarly journals and has to her credit,  sixty-four  (68) scientific publications and work made up of book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals published locally and internationally.  She is the author of “A concise guide to in-vitro recombinant DNA technology: Laboratory manual”; Essential Analytical Methods in Biotechnology and  A Guide to Experimentations in Molecular biology.
