FUTO VC, Prof. I.N.S. Dozie has restated the University's commitment to ethical conduct and good governance
The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has restated its commitment to promoting ethical standards, accountability, and good governance across the University system.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.N.S. Dozie stated this on Monday, August 17, 2026 during a one-day sensitisation workshop organised by the Imo State Office of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for officers of the University.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Chika C. Ogueke, the Vice-Chancellor described the workshop as crucial to strengthening ethical conduct and responsible leadership in public institutions.
Prof. Dozie urged participants to remain committed to the ethical standards expected of public officers, and abide by the provisions of the Code of Conduct in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
Addressing participants made up of Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and Heads of Units of the University, the Imo State Director of CCB, Mr B. I. Ejiogu, emphasised the importance of transparency, accountability, impartiality and responsible management of public resources in promoting public trust and institutional effectiveness.
He explained key provisions of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, and highlighted the consequences of non-compliance. He also urged participants to avoid conflicts of interest, and conduct themselves in ways that promote confidence in the University and the public service.
Mr Ejiogu further stressed the importance of proper declaration of assets and liabilities, where applicable, and compliance with relevant laws, regulations and administrative procedures.
The programme featured an interactive session during which participants sought clarification on ethical conduct, conflict of interest, asset declaration, and their responsibilities as public officers within the university system.
Established under Section 153 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Code of Conduct Bureau is responsible for administering and enforcing the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, and promoting compliance with its provisions.
