The Federal University of Technology, Owerri will on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 conduct a community-wide environmental sanitation and sustainability campaign at Eziobodo, one of the University’s host communities.

The Eziobodo environmental action marks the maiden edition of FUTO-SERVE, the University's Students' Community Volunteer Outreach initiative.

With the theme "Clean Host Community, Green Future: FUTO Students Taking Action Against Plastic Waste,” the outreach is designed to mobilise students to take practical action on environmental sanitation and responsible waste management.

According to the University's Student Affairs Unit, the outreach is also aimed at availing students of the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of communities within the University's immediate environment.

"FUTO-SERVE is a crucial component of the University's commitment to community engagement, environmental sustainability, and responsible citizenship, while strengthening positive relationships between FUTO, the students, and the University's host communities", Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Uche Chukwuocha said in a statement.

Activities for the day include environmental sanitation, plastic waste collection, and community sensitisation. Take-off point is the Student Affairs Unit premises at 8 a.m.

The University community, especially students, are encouraged to participate actively in the momentous outreach.
