Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. I.N.S. Dozie, has called for a stronger partnership between the University and the media to promote accurate information dissemination, institutional development, and public understanding of FUTO’s activities and achievements.

Prof. Dozie made the call on Monday, August 10, 2026 when members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council, paid him a familiarisation visit.

Receiving the journalists at the University Council Chambers, the Vice-Chancellor described media professionals as critical stakeholders in the development of the University, and commended the Correspondents’ Chapel for identifying with his administration.

Prof. Dozie stressed the need for journalists to provide the public with credible information. He urged members of the Chapel to always verify information relating to the University before publication, while using their various platforms to highlight FUTO’s achievements, research, innovations, and contributions to society.

The Vice-Chancellor assured the journalists that his administration would deepen engagement with the media and maintain a cordial and mutually beneficial relationship with media organisations. He also reiterated his commitment to building on the achievements of previous administrations while pursuing his administration’s vision and strategic goals for the University.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Imo State Council, Mr Chinazo Ilechukwu, said the visit was intended to congratulate Prof. Dozie on his appointment and assumption of office and to assure him of the Chapel’s readiness to support the University through professional and balanced reportage.

Mr Ilechukwu recalled the cordial relationship that existed between Prof. Dozie and members of the Chapel during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, Ideato, and expressed confidence that a similar relationship would be sustained at FUTO.

Also speaking, a veteran member of the Chapel and Chairman of the FUTO Parents Management Forum, Chief Chidi Nkwopara, said the Chapel identifies with the University's development initiatives, and expressed its willingness to support the Vice-Chancellor in advancing the University's interests.

Flanking the Vice-Chancellor during the visit were members of the University Management, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Chika C. Ogueke; Registrar, Mr Chiedozie Uba; Bursar, Mrs Ebere Nwadike; and University Librarian, Dr Mrs Justina N. Ekere.
