Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. I.N.S. Dozie, has assured women from the University’s host communities that his administration will sustain the University’s endowment fund established to support scholarships, poverty alleviation, and community development in its host communities.

Prof. Dozie gave the assurance while receiving members of the Umuoma Women Association, Nekede, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the women for their solidarity, and assured them of his administration's commitment to maintaining a cordial and mutually beneficial relationship with the host communities.

While emphasising the critical role of host communities in safeguarding the University's facilities and assets, the Vice-Chancellor urged the women to encourage their children and other members of the community to protect University property, and refrain from vandalism. He further called on the women to support the University's security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate authorities.

On the women's request for employment opportunities for qualified members of the community, the Vice-Chancellor explained that eligible candidates would be considered in accordance with applicable regulations whenever employment restrictions are lifted.

Earlier, the President-General of the Umuoma Women Association, Nekede, Mrs Maureen Ukah, congratulated Prof. Dozie on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor and expressed the women's support for his administration. Mrs Ukah said the women were encouraged by what she described as positive developments in the University, and called for continued collaboration between the University and the host communities.
