Maria Assumpta University Seeks FUTO’s Mentorship Ahead of Take-Off
As the newly established Maria Assumpta University Owerri prepares to commence academic activities, the University has approached FUTO for mentorship
Ahead of the commencement of its academic activities, the newly established Maria Assumpta University (MAU), Owerri, has sought the mentorship and collaboration of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
MAU made the request on Monday, August 10, 2026 when members of its Provisional Management Committee paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of FUTO, Prof. I.N.S. Dozie.
Speaking during the visit, chairman of the committee, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Wenceslaus Madu, said FUTO's track record as a leading university in Nigeria made it a suitable institution to help the newly established university build a strong institutional foundation.
Prof. Madu called for FUTO's support in teaching and non-teaching staffing, and guidance on National Universities Commission (NUC) resource verification, among other university development needs.
Responding, Prof. Dozie congratulated the Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, and the Catholic community on the establishment of Maria Assumpta University and its attainment of provisional approval from the NUC.
Prof. Dozie expressed delight with the choice of FUTO as a mentor to the newly established MAU, recalling that FUTO has continued to play similar roles to younger universities. He assured the delegation of FUTO's willingness to provide appropriate support and guidance towards the successful take-off of the new university.
He said FUTO would be prepared to share relevant institutional experience and expertise that would assist MAU in navigating the challenges associated with establishing and developing a university.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the delegation to present a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining the areas and framework of the proposed partnership for consideration and approval by the respective university authorities.
