The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), FUTO Branch, has commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie, for the prompt implementation of the newly approved Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA) applicable to its members.

SSANU FUTO gave the commendation on Monday August 24, 2026 when its Branch Executive Committee paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor.

SSANU Chairman, Comrade Dr Frank Uche Duru, described the implementation as a crucial step towards improving staff welfare, and commended FUTO for, according to him, being the first public university in the South-East to implement the allowances. Dr Duru also commended the Federal Government, SSANU national leadership, and FUTO Management for their roles in bringing the implementation to fruition.

Presenting a copy of the signed FG-SSANU agreement to the Vice-Chancellor, the SSANU Chairman said it contained both financial and non-financial provisions. He appealed to Management to support the implementation of the outstanding non-financial provisions, particularly those relating to career progression, and the protection of positions designated for non-teaching staff.

He also called for the review of the University's scheme of service, conditions of service, and other staff welfare provisions, to reflect current realities. The SSANU Chairman assured the Vice-Chancellor that members of the Association would remain productive, responsible, and committed to the effective discharge of their duties.

Responding, the VIce-Chancellor thanked the SSANU delegation, and urged staff members to uphold the University's rules and regulations, and contribute responsibly to the achievement of its goals.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the University's Bursary staff for their co-operation in the implementation of the allowances, and stressed the importance of collaboration and constructive engagement between Management and staff unions in advancing the University's interests.

While emphasising the importance of staff welfare, the Vice-Chancellor called for greater commitment to professionalism and discipline. He assured the delegation that Management would remain accessible to staff, and would give due consideration to competence, responsibility, and capacity, in making appointments.
