Welcome to the Department of Soil Science and Technology. Soil Science programme is unique. The uniqueness of the Soil Science programme lies in the fact that all agricultural practices has its basis and foundation on the soil. No soil, no agriculture and environment and therefore no humanity. Soil science is the scientific study of the soil upon which man practices all forms of agricultural activities, including Crop Production, Animal Production of all kinds, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, Extension and all forms of Economics of Agricultural Production. Soil Scientists apart from studying to conserve and nutritionally improve and sustain soil productivity, also studies the impact of human activities on the soil such as urban developments, recreational centre developments, markets, oil exploration and on-land distribution of crude and refined oil products and environmental pollution. The soil is at the centre of efforts for ensuring environmental health and protection. If the soil is ignored, our human civilization is doomed. With these wide areas of coverage, graduates of the programme find career opportunities beyond serving as a plant nutritionist to providing expert services to all the fields that the soil supports.
