Admissions
Admissions
The Federal University of Technology, Owerri admits new students through the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) into 100 level, and through Direct Entry into 200 level. FUTO also runs a JUPEB programme and admits postgraduate students through its School of Postgraduate Studies.
Candidates must choose FUTO as their first choice on their JAMB application — if FUTO was not your original choice, change it on JAMB CAPS before the deadline in the current advertisement. Admission offers are made through JAMB's Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
FUTO advertises its Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening for each session. That advertisement carries the dates, fees, minimum scores and registration procedure for the session, so apply through the latest one: this page explains the general process, it does not replace the advertisement.

Admission lists
Every admission list FUTO publishes for this session appears here — the merit list first, then each supplementary batch as it is released, newest first. Open a card to search the candidates by name, JAMB registration number, department or state of origin.
A published list is provisional: your admission is confirmed only when you accept the offer on JAMB CAPS and the FUTO student portal.

Step by step
How to apply
The order matters: JAMB first, then FUTO's screening, then CAPS, then the FUTO portal. Keep your JAMB registration number and O'Level results handy throughout.
Sit JAMB UTME or apply for Direct Entry
Register with JAMB and sit the UTME, or submit a Direct Entry application with your A'Level, JUPEB, ND/HND or degree results. Make FUTO your first choice — if you did not, change institution on JAMB CAPS before the advertised deadline.
Meet the O'Level requirements
Five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, plus the subjects your programme requires. Confirm your UTME subject combination against the JAMB brochure for that programme.
Register for FUTO Post-UTME/DE screening when advertised
Watch FUTO news and the student portal for the screening advertisement, then register on the portal, pay the screening fee on your invoice and submit your application.
Check and accept your offer on JAMB CAPS
Admission is offered through JAMB CAPS. Log in to the JAMB eFacility with your registration number, check your admission status and accept the offer.
Accept on the FUTO portal and pay your fees
Accept the admission on the FUTO student portal and pay the fees shown on your portal invoice. Never pay through an agent or an unverified account.
Complete your registration
Finish registration on the portal, upload or verify the documents the advertisement asks for, and follow the academic calendar for resumption and clearance dates.
Selection combines your JAMB score, O'Level results and screening record. The latest FUTO advertisement is the only authoritative source for dates, fees and minimum scores.
Before you apply
Admission requirements
The general requirements below apply to every candidate. Your programme adds its own subject combination on top of them.
O'Level requirements
- Five credit passes including English Language and Mathematics, plus three other subjects relevant to your programme.
- Credit passes should be obtained in not more than two sittings — some programmes may require one sitting, so check your programme's entry requirements.
- Upload your O'Level results on JAMB CAPS and the FUTO portal when the advertisement asks for them.
UTME subject combination
- Use the four subjects the JAMB brochure lists for your programme — English Language is compulsory in every combination.
- Technology and engineering programmes usually require Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; other programmes specify their own three subjects.
- A combination that does not match the programme on JAMB CAPS can make you ineligible, even with a good score.
JAMB score and cut-off
- FUTO publishes the minimum UTME score for each session's admission, separately for its programmes.
- The figure changes every session and is announced in the current advertisement — do not rely on previous years' cut-off marks.
- Candidates who did not choose FUTO at first still need to change institution on JAMB CAPS within the advertised window.
Screening requirement
- Register for and complete FUTO's Post-UTME or Direct Entry screening when it is advertised — an application without screening is not considered.
- Your personal details, JAMB registration number, course choice and O'Level results must match between JAMB CAPS, the screening form and the portal.
- Check the advertisement for the deadline to upload O'Level results on JAMB CAPS.
Direct Entry documents
- A'Level, JUPEB, ND/HND or degree results, as applicable to the programme you are applying for.
- A'Level certificates verified by the awarding institution on JAMB CAPS.
- Academic transcripts sent to the Registrar, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, within the deadline in the advertisement.
Exact O'Level and UTME subject combinations are programme-specific. Confirm yours in the JAMB brochure and in the current FUTO advertisement before you apply — requirements can change between sessions.

Common questions
Admissions FAQs
Who is eligible to apply to FUTO?
You are eligible if you applied through JAMB for the current session (UTME or Direct Entry), chose FUTO as your first choice — or changed to FUTO on JAMB CAPS within the advertised window — meet the O'Level and UTME subject requirements for your programme, and register for FUTO's Post-UTME or Direct Entry screening when it is advertised.
Do I have to choose FUTO as my first choice?
Yes. FUTO considers candidates who chose it as their first choice. If FUTO was not your original choice, use the change-of-institution option on JAMB CAPS before the deadline in the current advertisement, then register for the screening.
How do I check my admission status?
Your admission is confirmed on JAMB CAPS. Log in to the JAMB eFacility with your registration number to see whether an offer has been made, and check the FUTO student portal for the University's own record. The merit list published on this site is provisional — it does not replace JAMB CAPS.
What do the admission lists mean (merit and supplementary)?
The merit list is the first public list of candidates offered provisional admission for the session; supplementary batches follow as places remain. Appearing on any of them does not complete your admission: you still accept the offer on JAMB CAPS and the FUTO portal, pay the fees on your portal invoice and complete registration.
What should I do after I am offered admission?
Accept the offer on JAMB CAPS, then accept it on the FUTO student portal and pay the fees shown on your portal invoice. Complete registration, upload or verify the documents the advertisement asks for, and follow the academic calendar for resumption and clearance dates.
Where can I get help with my application?
Start with the current screening advertisement and the FUTO student portal — they carry the support contacts for the session. For general admissions enquiries use the University's contact page, and check FUTO news for announcements and updates.
Need help with your application?
Admissions questions go to the University, and application or portal problems go to the support contacts published in the current screening advertisement and on the FUTO student portal.
FUTO admits through JAMB CAPS and the official student portal only — treat admission offers made outside those two channels with suspicion.
