The library of the Federal University of Technology Owerri started in 1981. In 1991, the library moved along with the university to its permanent site where it started at the Pilot plant house of the School of Science. The library comprises three buildings namely; the Library Phase IV, Phase II Building and the E-Library. These buildings are centrally located at a convenient distance from the classrooms, laboratories and hostels in a cool noiseless zone of the campus. Each of the buildings houses different sections of the library. The User services, Bindery and Reprography Unit are housed in this building. The collections in this building are arranged according to the university's curriculum such as social sciences, humanities and science, technology and agriculture.
The Acquisitions, Processing, Rare Collections, Serials (Bound Newspapers, Journals, and Periodals), Documents, Gifts, and Exchange divisions are housed in the library Phase II building, whereas the University librarian's office, the ICT Unit, and the Research Commons are located in the E-Library building.
