The Enactus team of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has recorded a double victory at the 2026 Enactus Nigeria National Competition.

Enactus-FUTO emerged national champions in the Early-Stage Projects category, with its Ecofuel project. With this win, the team will represent Nigeria at the Enactus World Cup in São Paulo, Brazil.

The FUTO team also won the Julius Berger Innovation Challenge, with A.L.T.A.R., a robot that detects structural and construction defects. The solution earned the team a ₦3.5 million grant.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie, represented by Dr C. P. Dozie, accompanied the team, and witnessed the competition held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday August 15, 2026. Also present at the event was the team’s Faculty Advisor and pioneer Director of the University's Career Service Centre, Prof. O. T. Ebiringa.

Enactus-FUTO has maintained a strong record of excellence in national and international entrepreneurship and innovation competitions for more than 18 years. The team emerged national champions of Enactus Nigeria in 2010 and 2012, representing Nigeria at the Enactus World Cup in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., respectively.

Members of the team have also participated in several global entrepreneurship and social impact events, including the 2011 Africa‑Asia regional finals of the Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) held at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad; the Action-With-Africa Challenge in Germany in 2023, and Kazakhstan in 2025; as well as the Unilever Idea Trophy African regional finals in Johannesburg and the Future Leaders Challenge in Manchester in 2013, 2015, and 2018.

Through these engagements, Enactus-FUTO has attracted grants, industry linkages, and international collaborations that have strengthened FUTO’s visibility, social entrepreneurship ecosystem, and global competitiveness. The 2026 double victory adds to Enactus-FUTO’s winning history, and consolidates the team's position at the top ranks of Nigeria's most formidable Enactus chapters.

The Vice-Chancellor and the University community have congratulated the team on the achievement, and wished the members success as they, yet again, fly the FUTO and Nigerian flags on the global stage.
