FUTO is trending because a new report shows that after Covenant University, Federal University of Technology Owerri, produces the most employable graduates in Nigeria.

A report from a job assessment platform, TestAssessify, ranks Covenant University (CU) as number 1 and the Imo state varsity as second, scoring 48% and 43% respectively.

University of First Choice, UNILAG came 4th with 42%, while FUTA, LASU, University of Ibadan, and OAU failed to make the list.

University of Ilorin came 7th, UNIBEN 8th, OOU 9th, and UNN 10th.

The report was generated with the assessment of over 200,000 job seekers.

The report also recognized the gross unemployment rate in Nigeria.

However, 40% of job seekers are from federal institutions, while 5% are from privately owned institutions, and 2% from international institutions.

Key Findings:

  • Age is a critical disqualification factor for job seekers, not degree class.
  • 2:2 holders make up 48% of the applications, while 2:1 holders are 43%, and first-class graduates make up only 4%. Yet, first-class graduates perform better in the tests, followed by 2:1 holders and then 2:2 holders.
  • Law students perform best in tests, followed by Engineering students and Management Science students.
  • People aged 21-24 are employed quicker. They also score higher than other age groups, even though those aged 26+ make up more than 35% of applications.
  • Engineering students perform better in Critical Reasoning. Engineering students also excel in Numerical Reasoning, while Arts and Humanities students are better at Verbal Reasoning.
  • UNILORIN had the highest number of job seekers.
  • Ultimately, employers focus on talent rather than grades.
