The FUTO Women Association (FUTOWA) has held the first-ever campus-wide fitness walk at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), bringing staff and students together for a day of exercise, networking, and wellness.

Tagged FUTOWA FitFest 2026, the historic one-day event was held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with the theme, “Move, Network, Elevate: De-stress, Get Energised, and Ace Your Exams.”

Led by the President of FUTOWA, Dr. Mrs. C.P. Dozie, participants commenced the walk from the FUTO Guest House, and proceeded through the University campus, making a brief stop at the FUTOWA Complex before continuing to the Main Gate and returning to the Guest House.

Staff and students participated in the exercise, which also provided an opportunity for members of the University community to interact outside their regular academic and work routines.

Addressing participants, Dr. Mrs. Dozie highlighted the importance of regular physical activity to healthy living and overall well-being. She encouraged members of the University community to make exercise a part of their routine, and avoid prolonged sedentary lifestyles.

She thanked participants for supporting the initiative, and announced that the fitness walk was a prelude to a larger event scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026.

She called on members of the University community to participate actively in the forthcoming fitness event and sustain the culture of healthy living promoted by FUTOWA.
