The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) Branch of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has welcomed the payment of outstanding CONTTA arrears to its members, while calling for the resolution of other pending staff welfare issues.

The branch chairman, Engr. Nwachukwu I. Nwachukwu, conveyed the association’s appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie on Friday, October 9, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, describing the payment as a relief to members.

Nwachukwu noted that the development had strengthened the association’s confidence in its engagement with Management. He, however, appealed for similar attention to other outstanding allowances and entitlements due to members.

The chairman reiterated NAAT FUTO’s commitment to constructive engagement, industrial harmony, and the continued development of the University, expressing optimism that sustained dialogue would help resolve the remaining welfare issues.

The association’s engagement with the new administration had begun a day earlier, on Thursday, October 8, when Nwachukwu led a delegation to meet the Vice-Chancellor at his office. During the visit, the Union presented Prof. Dozie with a copy of the Federal Government/NAAT Agreement for his attention and consideration.

The delegation also congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on his assumption of office as FUTO’s ninth Vice-Chancellor and presented him with a congratulatory plaque, while pledging the union’s co-operation with his administration.

In his response, Prof. Dozie thanked the NAAT leadership and members for the visit, and urged them to remain dedicated to their duties and contribute to the University’s growth and development.

He assured the union of Management’s commitment to promoting a conducive working environment and improving staff welfare, extending the assurance to other recognised unions in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor stressed that constructive engagement, mutual understanding, and harmonious industrial relations were essential to sustaining peace, productivity, and progress in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor was flanked, during the visit, by members of the University Management, including Deputy Vice-Chancellors Academic, Administration, and Research, Development & Innovation; the University Registrar, Bursar, and Librarian.
