The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. I.N.S. Dozie, has secured firm commitments from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for increased interventions in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor secured the pledge on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 during a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono, at the Fund’s headquarters in Abuja.

Prof. Dozie, who was in Abuja to receive the "Pillar of Integrity" Award organised by Verbatim News Network Limited, seized the opportunity to formally introduce the University Management to the TETFund boss, and deepen collaboration between the two institutions.

Briefing the Executive Secretary, Prof. Dozie commended TETFund for its sustained interventions in Nigerian tertiary institutions, noting that the Fund’s role remains critical to the sustainable development of the education sector.

While making a strong case for more TETFund interventions in the premier university of technology in Nigeria, the Vice-Chancellor affirmed his administration's resolve to faithfully discharging the FUTO mandate as enshrined in its enabling law.

Responding, Arc. Echono congratulated Prof. Dozie on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, and lauded FUTO’s performance in TETFund-sponsored National Research Fund (NRF) grant cycles, among other funding windows.

The Executive Secretary, who was flanked by top management staff of the Fund, reiterated TETFund’s commitment to its interventionist role, adding that specialised universities such as FUTO stand to benefit from the Fund’s expanded offerings.

On the entourage of the Vice-Chancellor were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Engr. Prof. Remy Uche; the Registrar, Mr. Chiedozie Uba; and the University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) J.N. Ekere.
