Biography

Dr. Rasaq Olawale Medupin is an academic with no less than 10 years of experience. His decision to pursue a career in the academia came to him naturally after the compulsory National Youth Service Corps programme in Nigeria. His passion for research made him enroll for his PhD immediately after Masters of Engineering Degree in 2014. His professional career in the academia had, then, started at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida while on the PhD at Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria. His six years in the polytechnic afforded him the opportunity to be involved in training students for the middle workforce of his country, while he worked hard to make success of his research work.

It was time to move on in 2018, after bagging a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Materials and Metallurgical option). The journey to fully pursue his dream profession received a huge impetus and brought him to Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria in 2019 where he currently works as a lecturer. His PhD research which was patented late 2018 was a major leap which has formed part of his research focus. He applied nanotechnology in the area of materials science and engineering to produce a novel anthropomorphic prosthetic foot to help amputees overcome the enormous social, psychological and economic burdens associated with amputation. This has given life to his career direction in developing new materials from wastes and promoting responsible production and consumption in accordance to UN’s SDG 12.

Dr. Medupin has received laurels at scientific exhibitions as innovative research achievements and has many undergraduate and postgraduate students currently working under his supervision. Some of his research findings have been shared at both local and international peer-reviewed conferences and journals, the feedback of which birthed two ongoing research in the research group to which he belongs. He holds corporate membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineer (NSE: 33294), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN: 31324) in Nigeria and the International Association of Engineers (IAENG: 249838).

Dr. Medupin is a researcher who enjoys both local and foreign collaborations among which are Nanotechnology Research Group of Federal University of Technology, Minna (local) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, CA, United States (foreign). He is open to more collaborative efforts.
